Bollywood composer and producer Sajid Khan has officially unveiled his revolutionary musical venture, WASAKA, calling it a “groundbreaking creative movement” set to redefine the future of musical storytelling. With a mission to create immersive live experiences, reimagine classics, and foster cross-cultural collaborations, WASAKA aims to take Indian music to the global stage while celebrating the soulful legacy of the late Wajid Ali Khan.
Speaking about the launch, Sajid gave a candid glimpse into his personal and creative mindset: “I've become a turbo Ferrari now. I'd love to be traveling since I've been traveling for eight months. Now, I'm like, I don't know where I am. I'm traveling a lot. And now, I've just taken time off to come here for a week. And then tomorrow, I'm traveling again. So, travel is my thing. The land keeps changing. The mind keeps changing. The desire keeps changing. So, I'm enjoying this trip and I'm loving it. It means, for the first time in my life, I'm busy with myself. Otherwise, someone used to keep me busy. We used to struggle. They used to keep us busy with work. So, for the first time, I'm enjoying being busy.”
When asked about the inspiration behind WASAKA, Sajid shared: “I wanted the legacy to go ahead. Mashallah, we are blessed to be born into a musical family. And we studied. We saw progress, the world, and success. After seeing all this, you know, then we thought the world has given us a lot. From here, we want to give it back to the people you know.”
He elaborated on the global vision for the project: “Wasaka is the thing which we take it to a very different level. Inshallah, one fine day Wasaka will make India proud. We will represent India. You know when we will work with a lot of people, people will say that it is an Indian company, you know which is doing well. So, taking your name to a different level, different level of success is a different thing. And I want Wajid to always be with me. I don't want that if Sajid is Wajid's name then people will get stuck on Sajid only. Wajid should not say now. Now even if they get stuck on Wajid, they will get stuck on Sajid. They will not get stuck on Sajid. It is because it is Wajid Sajid Khan!”
On how the idea first struck him, Sajid said: “Actually, I had to do this. We wanted Mayer and Wajid to do international work. We should take ourselves to the international level. Because we realized that we had that thing in us. You know, if it wasn't in us, we would never have tried. So we realized that we can work for the Western people, also for Hollywood, also for different melodies and different languages. So we had to take this thing forward. Now that is no longer there, so this sin was stuck somewhere and now we have moved a little bit. So, of course, the idea is to collaborate with a lot of international artists in the international market and design one of the most beautiful weddings because Muskaan is a woman who has a diploma specialized in wedding planning, is a pianist, and, you know, is also a singer. I think it's great if someone with all this knowledge runs a company like this.”
He also emphasized WASAKA’s creative freedom: “I mean, we don't like to be told to do this or that. We'll just tell you what to do. Our perspective is different. So, you know, designing a wedding is something very unique, as is designing any event. We didn't do all this before. I mean, we've just started focusing on everything. At the end of the day, creativity is what you use. Wherever you apply it, it will create magic. So, that's the idea.”
The project’s first musical release is nothing short of spectacular, featuring the legendary Sabri Brothers’s Shabab Sabri & Danish Sabri, alongside the soulful voice of Salman Ali from Indian Idol. The track fuses Sufi–Qawwali intensity with contemporary emotion, honoring Wajid’s legacy while introducing a modern edge.
